Valerie Hudson, coordinator with the Smiths Falls DBA is always looking for ideas and possibilities how to revitalize the Smiths Falls Downtown area. In early 2008 she had the idea to create a farmers market which should take place in downtown Smiths Falls.

She got the permit from the owners of the parking lot besides the movie theatre to set up the farmers market. When looking for prospective vendors, she got about a dozen people interested in a vendors space.

After a few meetings with the vendors, the farmers market started on May 23, 2008 with about a dozen vendors, offering plants, meat, sausages, home made preserves and bakings and dog treats, as well as some crafters.

The Smiths Falls Farmers Market goes now in it’s third season with most of the vendors returning. The vendors are thanking everybody who attended the farmers market for their support and hope to see you again in the upcoming season, starting on May 15, 2010.

There are some additional events this year and the Smiths Falls Farmers Market maintains now its own web site.

The Smiths Falls Farmers Market is committed to promoting and selling locally grown produce and value-added products.

We provide a place for farmers, bakers, gardeners, food vendors and artisans to sell their good. We encourage musicians, community groups and creative people to come out and promote their activity or their organization. We want to create a welcoming, community atmosphere, a place for people to meet.
